Blouberg at a glance

Located on the shores of Table Bay is the picturesque Cape Town suburb of Blouberg. Also referred to as Bloubergstrand - which directly translates into ‘blue mountain beach’ - it is easy to see why it is known as such. The waters of the South Atlantic Ocean borders Blouberg to the West and offers views of Robben Island in the distance. 

Suburbs

Situated in proximity to the N2 freeway, Blouberg is also near the M14, M5 and M120 - as well as the R27 (West Coast Road) that runs all the way to Velddrif on the West Coast.

Robben Island 

Situated approximately 7 km off the coastline at Bloubergstrand is the world-famous Robben Island. Known for being the location where former South African President Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years. Today Robben Island is a popular tourist attraction and was named both a South African National Heritage Site and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors can access the island by means of official tours, which leave by ferry from the Cape Town Waterfront. There are three tours daily, all delving into the historical significance and sites found here.

Ons Huisie

This eatery is the best-known restaurant in Blouberg, not only for the scrumptious food that is served here but because Ons Huisie is internationally recognised for being a heritage site and was named a national monument in 1973. Speculated to have been built during the mid to early 1800’s - this building is one of the oldest in the area. Guests can expect wonderful “Weskus” or West Coast dishes, strongly influences by local cuisines. With a menu that reflects the simplicity and beauty of its environment, this is a truly unique destination that can be enjoyed by all.
