News from Dogon Group
CT's millionaire's mile

These Cape Town flats separate the men from the playboys.

They are so expensive that some owners won't let anybody in. And so rare, they can be found nowhere else but on a stretch of road that's only a few hundred metres long – on the lower side of the road that is, not the upper.

If there were any for sale right now, you could pay up to R50 million for one, and live with the fact that only a few kilometres away, something very similar would cost you only R7 million.

Glyn BricknellFemale pioneer takes on a new challenge

Glyn Bricknell, newly-appointed MD of Dogon Group Properties, has always been a pioneer. She was the first woman appointed to the construction industry board; the first female mayor of Hilton, a town outside Pietermaritzburg; and the first practicing female auctioneer in South Africa. And those achievements are just the tip of the iceberg.

Bricknell also rose to the rank of regional managing director at the large real estate group where she previously worked for 18 years, running an empire of 35 branches in the Boland and Overberg region, with an annual turnover of R1,4-billion and market share of 40%. This she did with “commitment, energy and success” according to the chairman of the group, which presented her with two prestigious awards during her tenure.

2010 will trigger Cape Town's 'explosion into a true global city'
Denise DogonAs a result of the major infrastructure investments and multimillion rand building projects triggered by the hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Cape Town is set to “explode into a true global city,” with property in prime positions being viewed from a world market perspective.

This is the view of property doyen Denise Dogon, who has just returned from New York and Dubai, where she met with some of the leading property investors in the world.

Dogon, who heads top-end estate agency Dogon Group Properties, says the vigorous development now taking place has already impacted positively on Atlantic Seaboard sales, and this effect is likely to extend far beyond 2010.

Recent sales show strong demand for Hout Bay homes
The sale of six very different houses in Hout Bay by Gerald Romanovsky of Dogon Group Properties over the past eight weeks highlights the increasing demand for properties in an area that is attracting an eclectic mix of buyers who want to express their individuality through their homes.

One of the houses sold was a Japanese-style home designed by its first owner, fashion designer Hilton Weiner.  Romanovsky,  of Dogon Group’s Hout Bay office says the designer’s attention to detail is evident in the Japanese rafters of the spacious lounge, and the Japanese blinds and room dividers, as well as the solid Oregon pine floors, copper fascia boards, old brass handles and taps, Japanese garden with koi pond and fountain, and numerous other features evoking the spirit of Japan.

Home buyers rediscover the rural charm of Noordhoek
Noordhoek, once perceived as being “too far away” from the city centre,  is being rediscovered by many home buyers as a little piece of paradise in an easily accessible location, says Dale de Ridder, the area specialist for Dogon/Group Properties.

De Ridder says with few large expanses of land now left for subdivision and development – only two of the original family-owned farms that could potentially be developed still remain - houses in the area are in greater demand than ever before, and properties have recently been sold at the asking price within a day of coming onto the market.

 by Simpiwe Piliso
MILLIONAIRE or billionaire, if there is one thing money can’t buy, it’s the right address on the country’s most sought-after coastline.

The world’s jet setters, cash in hand, are increasingly battling to secure a piece of Cape Town’s ultra-exclusive suburb of Clifton.

Atlantic Seaboard property prices still reaching record highs
Every time properties are sold for record prices on Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard, it appears that these exceptional prices can’t be achieved again, yet they are exceeded within a relatively short time. This comment from Denise Dogon, CEO of Dogon Group Properties, is supported by recent deals that her company has concluded in the area, including the sale of a home for R15-million, inclusive of VAT, in Higgovale, far exceeding the previous highest price of R10,9-million in the suburb.
